Deputy Director General
5G Deployment and 6G Roadmap in Vietnam
Mr. Nguyen Phong Nha has served as Deputy Director General of the Viet Nam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) since its inception in August 2011. Prior to his appointment at VNTA, he accumulated nine years of industry experience at the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT). He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Hanoi Polytechnic University.
With extensive expertise in telecommunications policy, regulatory strategy, and industry governance, Mr. Nha has played a pivotal role in advancing Vietnam’s wireless communications landscape (spanning GSM, WCDMA, LTEAdvanced, 5G, and emerging technologies), spectrum licensing, critical infrastructure management (broadband, fiber-optic systems, and satellite networks), and consumer protection.
Throughout his career, Mr. Nha has led and contributed to major national strategic initiatives. Key milestones include formulating the regulatory frameworks for the 3G "beauty contest" licensing (2009) and the 5G spectrum auction (2024), steering the national roadmap for 2G and 3G network sunsetting (2024), and drafting the landmark 2023 Law on Telecommunications alongside its 2024 guiding Decree… Currently, he serves as a member of the Ministry’s Steering Committee on 6G Research and Development, directly driving policy initiatives to spearhead 6G deployment in Vietnam. His work remains instrumental in establishing a robust, resilient regulatory ecosystem that balances industry growth, fair market competition, and end-user interests.
A prominent thought leader, Mr. Nha is a frequent speaker and moderator at high-level national and international forums, including Vietnam Telecomp, CommunicAsia, and ministerial events hosted by ASEAN, APT, and the ITU. He looks forward to contributing his strategic perspectives to the workshop on "Shaping the Future of 5G Advanced and 6G Networks."
